Baby news

At last Joans daughter has had her baby - a little boy called Charlie, weight 9lbs.  Joan rang the shop this morning with the news just as Katies (Joans daughter) friends had called in to find out if there was any news.  Katies friend is Beth, the local police woman and whilst talking to her you can see people walking pass wondering whether I have done something wrong, although a customer came in afterwards and thought maybe we had been burgled!

On Friday I visited Malvern which was very busy, apparently the day before was really hot and nobody went into the marquee as it was sweltering. With all the fabric in the shop you would not expect me to buy any more but I managed to find some bits that I had not seen before plus I spent a fortune on books (another weakness).

We have a UFO day running on Friday 29th July so if you have any projects that have been lying around for ages bring them along and get them finished.

Debby

I have managed to grab the computer, and Debby is lurking in the background desperate to take over!  We have had a busy week, and I am still on tenterhooks as the baby has still not arrived.  It will now be induced next Tuesday if it doesn`t decide to make an appearance before then.  I had a phone call last Thursday night at 11.00pm, and thought this is it, but it was my sister telling me that her daughter Carly who lives in South Africa had had a little girl.  This baby was due a week after my daughter`s, and delighted as I was, I was slightly put out that it wasn`t our baby.

I decided to change the window last week and made some children`s clothes for a change from a lovely range of Moda fabrics  - Summer Breeze.  We seem to be selling quite a lot of fabric for dressmaking, not surprising really as there are some lovely designs in such pretty colours at the moment.  I have also been busy making some more bags as we have sold several recently.

This morning I have been over at Rockwell Green teaching our Thursday morning class.  I took my camera to take some photographs, but forgot to take any!  However |I can report that Sandra has completed her sampler quilt top with borders and is now ready to layer and quilt it.  She has also been working on her jelly roll quilt, and seems to be quite smitten with the whole patchwork/quilting bug.  Lesley is happily making a bag out of some really lovely linen fabric samples she was given.  Lynne seems to bring something new every week, but today brought a quilt she is appliquing for her grandson, it was supposed to be ready by Sunday, but |I am sure she won`t mind me saying that isn`t going to happen - she only bought the fabric last Saturday!

Our favourite quilt show is on at Malvern this week, I can`t go for obvious reasons, but Debby is hoping to go this weekend, much to my disgust - I really wanted to go!
We have decided to take a stand there in the Autumn, we are going to have to really plan for this one as we can`t pop home every night like we did at the Exeter show.  I am already feeling excited about it - how sad am I.

Another Week

I thought as Debby normally writes the blog that I would have a go this week, and have already managed to create a post with nothing in it - I hit the wrong button!  I really am useless when it comes to computers, and I hate Debby`s laptop, it feels so different to mine.

We have had quite an interesting week.  I have jumped ten feet in the air every time the phone rings thinking it will be my daughter telling me she has gone into labour, but no the baby hasn`t arrived.  Then there has been the dread that she will ring me when Debby was doing the workshop this week, and I struggled to get any cover.  I finally asked Shirley from the Stitcherydo blog.  I wasn`t sure she would be interested, but she was happy to help, we were delighted but needless to say we didn`t need her!  However she is quite happy to help in the future, so you may see her occasionally along with Tricia who has already worked in the shop a couple of times.  My next worry is that I get a phone call when I am in the shop and I can`t get hold of Debby who has a very fancy phone( which I wouldn`t have a clue how to use) but which broke a week ago and has had to go back to the manufacturers.  Anyway enough about me.

Yesterday Debby had a full workshop on jelly rolls.  She has had several sleepless nights worrying about it as usual -I have so much to put up with!  She made several really lovely samples (below), all of which I now want to make, but of course I won`t because there are not enough hours in the day.

 

 

While she was doing the workshop a parcel arrived, and of course I thought what has she ordered now, but in fact it was a monthly delivery from Moda of layer cakes and jelly rolls.  We have thought about cancelling this monthly delivery, but every time we get them we love them so much we can`t quite bring ourselves to do it. Anyway the new ones are the `Just Wing it` collection. 

Today we have had Rosie and Mel visit us with a view to having a new super duper website constructed.  We would really like to be able to sell our fabric on line, as we get so many requests.  Debby is much more knowledgeable about this kind of thing than me, so I just stood there trying to make out that I knew what they were talking about and nodding my head now and then in an authoratitive sort of way.  However, I was able to show them some sites that I do like, if nothing else!

I have managed to grapple the computer off Joan so will finish off with my news.  On Tuesday I was talking to a customer when two police officers walked in - Rhian (our customer said to me what have you done and then promptly left) and I was racking my brains to think of any law breaking I had committed in the last couple of days.  Thankfully Beth, the police officer, is a friend of Joan's daughter and was enquiring about the baby - what a relief.

My ladies in the workshop yesterday were lovely and will hopefully finish their quilts - most of the day was spent cutting and stitching together strips, you could hear the concentration.  I won't mention Sue and her few measurement/counting issues at one point she thought she didn't have enough strips in the jelly roll, we counted the strips a number of times and got a different number each time until Judy got involved and we all calmed down!

Holidays are over

Easter has gone and the excitement of the dress and the Royal wedding has gone as well!  Along with that has gone my ordering power.  A decision has been made - I am no longer allowed to order anything on my own, I have to say that this was said by my husband first and when I repeated it to Joan she agreed. So if you are reading this Alan only visit on Thursday afternoons please.

I have just come back from a break in Berlin which I thought was going to be a free holiday but once at the airport my brother (who was paying for the trip) surprised us with the news that he expected some work to be done by my husband and myself to pay for our trip - typical.

Whilst waiting at the airport with time to spare I managed to find a beautiful pair of sunglasses which matched my hair perfectly and made me look gorgeous (in my opinion) but I walked away from them and went for a drink. The sunglasses kept calling me (just like chocolate does) and my husband asked if I wanted him to buy them but I bravely said I would buy them myself to which he replied "thank godness for that" - before I say anymore I would like to state that I don't have pots of secret money and I must have been ill that morning or my spending habit in the shop has spilled over to my normal life although when I said this to Joan she said it was the other way round.  Anyway I am now the proud owner of a pair of real (not fake) Prada sunglasses complete with a beautiful case which I am guarding with my life and will be wearing for the next five summers.  Whilst sitting on a bus in Berlin I did ask my husband if anyone was looking at my glasses and recognising the name on the side - he just ignored me. 

Enough about me - back to the shop.  No problematic customers so far which is good news.  We do have a little lad called Ben who comes in with his mum who I have managed to frighten yet again.  The last time he came in I couldn't find the calculator so I asked him to add up some figures for me not realising that he would find this traumatic and I apologised but of course when he came in yesterday I did it again without thinking so sorry Ben I promise I won't throw any more figures at you.

Now time to panic about the Jelly Roll workshop next week - I stupidly thought that I would put together another couple of quilts before the course which starts as I don't want people to be bored, so now I am beginning to get stressed as usual.

Joan is back tomorrow - still no sign of the baby yet (not Joan's her daughters) so will keep you posted
